Research datasets
X-ray projector and homepage hand animation

XYRA crops the CT data to the hand and generates simulated radiographs with adjustable projection, exposure and image processing. The homepage hand rotation uses these radiographs, resized and normalized, with mirrored views to complete the turn. The shared hand crop, dataset-derived radiographs, hand-rotation videos and poster are available under CC BY-SA 4.0.

CT data are cropped and used to generate the positioning lab's simulated anatomy and radiographs.
Attenuation reference data
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (2025), EPICS2025: the Evaluated Photon Data Library (EPDL) and Evaluated Electron Data Library (EEDL), ENDL2025 release, evaluation date 30 January 2025.
XYRA derives water, cortical-bone and air attenuation over 10–150 keV from the EPDL elemental photon cross sections, interpolated at 1 keV intervals, with density conversion for linear attenuation. Aluminium filtration is derived the same way. The mass energy-absorption coefficient of air is derived from the EPDL average-secondary-energy records together with a radiation yield computed from EEDL.
Used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, as published by LLNL. The values XYRA uses are adapted from that data, not reproduced from it: they are summed over reactions, combined into materials by mass fraction, and interpolated onto the renderer's own energy grid. LLNL does not endorse XYRA or these derived values.
Material compositions and densities — water, ICRU-44 cortical bone, dry air and aluminium — are standard reference recipes and are not part of the EPICS data.
Film response research
The Film teaching model uses an original implementation informed by C. J. Martin, Optimisation in general radiography (2007), published under Creative Commons Attribution.
XYRA adds automatic anatomy presentation and uses generic model parameters. Manufacturer curves, figures and fitted product data are not reproduced.

Server software
The website uses Ruby on Rails, Puma and their open-source dependencies. The projector server uses cpp-httplib. GDCM supports DICOM reading in renderer builds that enable it.
The positioning renderer uses Qt on the server under LGPLv3, including software from the FreeType project. This software is based in part on the work of the FreeType Team and the Independent JPEG Group. GPU rendering uses NVIDIA CUDA.
